Hayward AquaRite Turbo Cell - Review and Tips for Success

Folks have requested a review of my Salt Chlorine Generator.  I said that I would make one after one year of operation and now, after 12 months, and during this quarterly maintenance cycle Ive done so.  Ive also assembled what I believe to be some tips to provide the best experience and chances for success with this type of system, so enjoy.

Hayward Turbo Cell - Super Easy Quarterly Inspection and Cleaning
The Aquarite salt generator will remind you every three months to inspect you salt cell.  This doesn't mean that you should simply shut off the alarm, it means it should actually be inspected and cleaned.....

    We start the same way as every other pool project, by cutting power...   evaluating required items  (most of which people should have), and one new item.

     The safe mixing of acid and water to a 1 to 4 ratio and the cleaning of the unit with the acid after a pre rinse with the hose for 10 minutes.

    This is followed by post rinse.   Post inspection and re-assembly.  Used acid water mixture should simply be dumped back into the pool.

Hayward Pro Grid DE Filter Repair - Manual Air Relief Assembly Replace or Re-seal

     After putting my DE filter back into circuit after winter hibernation I conduction my inspection on the unit, a Hayward PRO-GRID D.E. Filter system model DE2420 as part of a yearly service.   I see an issue right from the beginning.  A leak forming from the top of the container, not from the gasketed area though.  

    This is fine though because the gauge was also on the way out and this is original equipment. So I begin the process to remove the old unit, prepare the container top for the new unit and then install and test the new unit.

I ended up needing a whole new unit which called for

If the unit was ok and just leaking from the O-rings the kit is

Same applies for model DE3620, DE4820, DE6020, DE7220

Hayward Vari-flo Valve Repair - Gasket Replacement Procedure

     When water starts leaking out of where it should not, such as out of the backwash port during normal operation, you can bet that the gasket has ruptured and it is time for replacement. 

The specific model being worked on is SP715XR50

Replacement gasket is part number SPX0715D

Permatex #2 FORM-A-GASKET is used
LubeTube with PTFE used as gasket dressing

Pentair Intelliflo VS Pool Pump Repair Part 1

     This video discusses how to remove the pool pump safely from service to then remove the motor from the unit so the the motor can be inspected and if need be separately repaired in the event of an over current error.   In some cases this error is caused by a motor issue, due to a failed rear bearing, in other cases its an electronic failure due to the controller board.

In this video further breakdown and testing of the motor is accomplished including the testing of the coil and the removal of both bearings from the unit in case of replacement.   Things go south from there as it is determined that the fault is most definitely associated with the controller which the company has made it all but impossible to diagnose except after cutting the unit into several pieces for inspection.
